Stephen Mulhern has revealed he would enjoy raucous hotel booze-ups with troubled Ant McPartlin and the rest of the BGT crew after filming.
Stephen Mulhern opens up about 'brilliant' booze-fuelled nights after Britain's Got Talent filming with Ant and Dec
Stephen hinted the hosts and judges of BGT embark on near-mandatory drinking sessions at the end of every day of filming on the hit ITV show.
The 41-year-old Britain’s Got More Talent host says he would be joined by Declan Donnelly, Amanda Holden , Alesha Dixon , and David Walliams as well as troubled 42-year-old Ant - who last month was arrested for drink-driving.
Ant will not present BGT this year following his arrest as he has returned to rehab, but Stephen says it is no secret that the TV stars would all gather together for drinks after filming auditions across the UK.
"It’s brilliant, because after filming we all go back to the hotel, give it five or 10 minutes - and then we’ll be in the bar,” Stephen told Closer magazine.
He also hinted refusing drinks was not an option.
"There’s no way you can come from auditions day and go: ‘Right everybody, I’m off to bed!’” he said.
He even claims that 46-year-old comedian David - who is famously teetotal - would also imbibe in a post-show drink.
"We have a good gossip. We all socialise, though David is the most disciplined and only ever has one cocktail,” he said - while also claiming show boss Simon Cowell : "Doesn’t come to the bar."
Ant McPartlin made headlines last month after being involved in a three car smash which hospitalised a four-year-old girl.
The star was later arrested on suspicion of drink-driving - with reports suggesting he was twice over the legal limit when he emerged from behind the wheel of his mini after the crash.
Ant and Dec’s careers have been derailed by the scandal - with Dec left to host Saturday Night Takeaway alone after Ant checked into rehab.
Last year, the Geordie star revealed he struggled with drug and alcohol addiction as he checked into rehab the first time.
Ant will feature in pre-recorded scenes of BGT when it returns to screens this weekend - however Dec will host the live rounds of the show alone as Ant is expected to take the rest of the year off work.
ITV said in a statement on Tuesday: "Dec will be hosting the live shows, which for the first time ever are coming from the Hammersmith Apollo, while Ant steps down from his TV commitments for now.
"We send Ant all our love.
"And we know that Dec will do a brilliant job."
The duo have fronted BGT since its inception in 2007.
Ant was arrested in Richmond on Sunday 18 March after his Mini was involved a collision with two other cars.
The 42-year-old is due to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on 16 April.
He said in an interview with The Sun on Sunday: "I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I am truly sorry.
"I want to thank my wife, family and closes friends for helping me through this really difficult time.
"I've spoken out because I think it's important that people ask for help if they're going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery."
